Coffee, furniture and wedding dresses – all under the same roof at the Heart of Kent Hospice’s new Maidstone Shop – can you donate a wedding dress?
Thirteen may be unlucky for some, but at the Heart of Kent Hospice, they’re not superstitious.
The charity is opening a unique shop at 13 King Street, Maidstone – and it’s their thirteenth shop.
Opening on Thursday 19th July at 10am, retail business manager Sheila Burton and her team have pushed the boundaries of charity retail to give shoppers an experience to rival all others.
Furniture, bric-a-brac, a coffee shop and posh frocks will all be drawn together at the impressive new two-storey building in the heart of the county town.
Two floors of the usual treasures are on offer – but with a twist.
Enjoy browsing the ground floor for home make-over items, browse the books and take a look at the music department, before treating yourself to a well-earned break in the coffee lounge where you can enjoy hot drinks, cakes, sandwiches and light bites.
The real find is on the first floor, where amongst all the usual fashion, accessories and charity shop items, will nestle the bridal suite.
The area will provide brides with somewhere special to buy her dress, with comfortable areas for her bridal party to wait whilst she steps into beautiful dressing rooms.
Sheila Burton said: “Brides-to-be will be given the same experience that any high street wedding shop would.
“We know that a wedding dress is treasured and it’s hard to part with it even though you’ll probably never wear it again or even look at it that much, but your dream dress could also be someone else’s.”
There will also be outfits for weddings, proms or days out like Ascot, along with shoes, hats, fascinators and accessories.
Sheila added: “If you’ve been hoarding that special outfit never to be worn again, we would love to have it for the shop – especially men’s suits that won’t fit their waistlines ever again!”
And just to keep the lucky feeling going, you will be able to join the Hospice lottery or buy tickets when you’re in the shop, plus find out about fund-raising events.
Any donations can be taken into any HOKH shop, or bring them along to the King Street shop once it’s open.
