Hundreds of friends, patrons, trustees and supporters joined the children and staff of Ashford children’s charity, The Caldecott Foundation, as they travelled back in time with an exclusive 1911 themed Garden Party to celebrate their centenary.
Held at the stunning Doddington Place, the Garden Party, kindly sponsored by accountants Wilkins Kennedy, saw high profile supporters enjoy a glorious day of fun, games and live entertainment including a raucous Edwardian bingo variety show and knees up courtesy of the amazing Timberlina.
Guests, many dressed in Edwardian costume, sampled sideshows such as the fortune telling bearded lady, treasure hunt, human fruit machine and Punch & Judy. They were able to buy luxury prize-filled scrolls throughout the day and after an Edwardian style picnic, a go or two of bash the rat and a try on the Coconut Shy. The grand finale to this exceptional day was a live auction with lots including a holiday at Whistler, ‘Be a Brewer for a Day’, Work Experience at Storm Models and a Kids Camping Party.
Sam Scott, Head of Fundraising said, “We are delighted that so many people were able to join us for this wonderful event. Thanks to the generosity of all those who attended we raised over £14,000 for our Centenary Appeal. We hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. Special thanks go to all those who helped make it possible, particularly Richard and Amicia Oldfield for letting us use the beautiful gardens at Doddington Place.”

Notes to Editors:
The Caldecott Foundation, based at Smeeth, near Ashford, provides residential care for children aged 5-16 in warm and welcoming homes, with primary and secondary education in the Foundation’s own school and therapies to maximise each individual’s life chances.
The Caldecott Foundation cares for the most vulnerable children in the UK who have suffered cruelty and neglect. It helps children build brighter futures and in 2011 celebrates its Centenary. To mark this special year, they have launched a Centenary Appeal. During 2011, they are aiming to raise £750,000 for projects such as a vocational training unit to help the older children in their care learn skills such as car mechanics, hair and beauty and horticulture. By developing this provision they will arm these young people with the qualifications and confidence they need to succeed.
