Students at Mid-Kent College wore pyjamas to lectures, to help launch the Heart of Kent Hospice’s Moonlit Walk event.
First year Health and Social care students at the Maidstone Campus dressed in pyjamas and the popular ‘onesies’ to give the event some early publicity and raise money at the same time.
Organised by student and hospice volunteer Ashleigh Pearson, the group held a fund-raising day selling cakes, offering henna tattoos for a Pound, a tin can alley game and even an arm wrestle, which raised £300.
The students also held a sponsored silence, which raised £150, along with a non-uniform day, earning them £60.
Ashleigh and some of her friends will be just a few of the hundreds expected to join in with the Moonlit Walk on Saturday 22nd September.
Participants will be walking in the moonlight around Maidstone along a six or 10-mile route to help raise vital funds for the hospice.
Now in its sixth year, organisers are hoping for 1,000 walkers to join them and help to raise £55,000.
Walkers pay a £15 registration fee but are also asked to raise sponsorship before the event.
The walk starts at 10pm (registration at 9pm) at the David Lloyd Centre in Kings Hill, taking walkers to Aylesford and back again.
It’s not a race, it’s just for fun but the aim is to boost funds for the hospice in Preston Hall, now celebrating its 21st year. And you’ll be in good company – 4,000 people have taken part in the event in previous years and raised a staggering £306,000
Both men and women are needed for the walk and people are encouraged to bring friends, family and even children who may like an unusual evening out whilst raising money. (Children must be accompanied by adults.)
Fancy dress in pyjamas is optional and as it’s a late night event, nightclothes may be a comfortable option.
Via the HOHK Facebook page, participants can upload their fund-raising updates, photos and anything else they wish to let people know about the event.
Registration is £15 and can be done via the dedicated website: www.moonlitwalk.org.
