PBC Awarded Sea Change For Dover

Posted on the 14th of May 2009

Pillory Barn Creative has been awarded the creative brief for an exciting new project - Sea Change for Dover

Dover is one of three seaside towns to receive substantial investment aimed at kick starting economic regeneration. Dover will benefit from the Sea Change funding programme delivered through the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.

Included in the plans for the town is a feasibility study for a cable car from the Esplanade to the Castle and improvements to the world famous Dover Castle that includes complete refurbishment and re-presentation of the Great Tower. At the same time there are plans to update the secret wartime tunnels to ensure that their significance during WWII is shared with visitors to the town.

The Bleriot Monument, which commemorates the first cross channel flight, will also be refurbished. These cultural and heritage projects are all aimed at breathing new life into Dover and will help to re-capture the special appeal held for it in the past, whilst also enhancing its offer to local communities and visitors.

The successful bid also includes enhancement of the Seafront and Esplanade in Dover to complement the Western Docks refurbishment, and new Sea sports centre and the creation of better links into the town.

By 2011 this £3.8 million investment should mean that Dover is well on its way to ensuring it makes the most of its rich heritage, whilst also remaining a much loved seaside town.
