Merry Christmas! Let’s look back at 2017

2017 in review

2017 was a year that saw Donald Trump take office, the England women’s cricket team win the World Cup and Theresa May continuing Brexit negotiations with millions of hearts broken when Prince Harry announced his engagement.

And this Kent based creative and digital content agency had a pretty jam packed year. Here’s our pick of highlights from our 24th year in business.

Number one has to be picking up a Gold for Best B2B Website in the Digital Awards for developing the Kent & Medway Growth Hub website. We also added a Silver for our video for Ashford Borough Council to our trophy cabinet.

We’ve been delighted to grow our team to the tune of four – welcoming Rebecca, Kareena, Mark and John in 2017.

An event-full year

We can pull off one heck of a show and 2017 was no different – with our usual favourites KEiBA, Pride in Medway, The Wellbeing Symposium and the first ever Inspiring Wellbeing Awards as well as winning some big new events.

We had smiles on our faces when Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce asked us to deliver two prestigious Kent B2B events, and although we had just a matter of weeks to pull off the first event, we have loved every second of it!

We believe we’ve really got the edge in this type of work, we don’t just deliver amazing events we create all the branding, websites, content and promotion around them, and know all the people who should be on your guest list.

We took the AshfordFor campaign to London’s stunning German Gymnasium to showcase the investment opportunities in Ashford. We put together a really unique event from invitation right through to the goodbye goodie bag, for 100 guests.

We even supported a management conference at QE11 London for NHS Property Services, supporting the internal communications work we undertook for them.

Talking tech

We welcomed Mark to our dev team in early autumn 2017. This has meant that in addition to delivering on client projects, we’ve been able to commit resource to launching a new Pillory Barn website and developing a brand new product, PB Lite – a simple, affordable yet responsive website for SMEs.

This crack team delivered an eye popping 21 web launches in 2017 – that’s a 350% increase!! Launches included Kent Music, Wellbeing People and our own PB website.

We are seeing an increasing demand for web apps and have been using this new technology for clients including Kent & Medway Growth Hub and leisure homes company Royale.

Say ‘Hello’ to a new destination marketing campaign

From a blank canvas, we created a whole new brand for Canterbury City Council’s latest destination marketing campaign, launching the Hello Herne Bay brand in April to much acclaim.

Fully integrated campaigns like Hello Herne Bay totally play to our agency strengths, using the whole team’s skills and bringing our creativity to the fore.

It’s delivering on all its KPIs and by July the promo video had 25k Facebook views and by October it hit 1,000 likes.

The airshow went from 80,000 visits in 2016 to 100,000 this summer and we managed to secure a front cover for KM What’s On.

Making it personal

2017 was another bumper year of personal achievements within our team.

Roger became ‘Grandad Roger’ this year, with the arrival of baby Noah this autumn.

Our CIPR accredited practitioner Jodi is in training for the 2018 Virgin London Marathon and is busying organizing a fundraising Masked Ball in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund – this is on top of her day job!

Mikey T has signed up for the Marathon too, in aid of Alzheimer’s UK.

Andy continues to impress us with his entrepreneurial side, developing and launching a genetic calculator for geckos which got around 30,000 page views in its first year and an average of 4,200 unique users. The website even won an Honourable Mention in Reptile Report’s Achievement of the Year category. Well done Andy!

Zoe welcomed baby Leo into the world at the beginning of the year and, not to do things by halves, moved house too!

Since then she’s been busy redecorating, comparing interior design notes with Julie, who also moved house this year!

Merry Christmas from Pillory Barn!

Zoe is also planning her 2018 wedding, and love was in the air for our developer Peter too, who got engaged this year! Congrats!

Newbie Mark also moved house this year and celebrated his daughter Isabel’s first birthday. Kareena is enjoying flexing her creative muscles having completed her first year with us.

Lee, AKA Middle Youth denial man, has travelled the length and breadth of the UK this year, climbing Welsh mountains and cycling from London to Brighton, which makes us exhausted just thinking about it!

Kelly is another of PB’s keen runners and has just completed the Heart of Kent Hospice’s Turkey Run.

Just a few months in to her new job, Rebecca ‘enjoyed’ a taster of wheelchair rugby back in March, joining our client Wellbeing People and Paralympian Steve Brown to experience life from a wheelchair user’s perspective.

Building on her yoga qualification, Rachael attended a retreat in Turkey and is taking it a step further next year, starting her teacher training in January.

We’re ending the year on an absolute high and we could honestly go on go on about all the things we’ve achieved in 2017 – our story is set to run and run in 2018.
