What was our challenge?

Heritage Lab CIC has been at the forefront of efforts to unlock the social and economic potential of historic buildings as community assets since launching in 2017.

We were asked five years on to visualise the next chapter in the story of this incredible organisation, pivotal to Ramsgate’s success in being named the first place in the UK to be established as a Heritage Action Zone.  Our challenge was to refresh and re-launch the Heritage Lab brand as an organisation championing curiously creative spaces.

What did we do?

We carried out researched the projects and others like it to see what worked and what didn’t, what its purpose would be and what success would look like in terms of meeting the objectives and vision for the project going forward.

This work resulted in a delivery plan to shape the work of our in-house developers supported by content and design, including moodboarding and quite a few hours of creative exploration.

As a creative organisation, it was important that the visuals took centre stage and bring the potential and vibrancy of Ramsgate’s heritage and the exciting projects that Heritage Lab is delivering to life – showcasing, enthusing and inspiring.

How did we do it?

We have a tried and tested process in developing brand to great effect and this project was no different with a detailed UX session that helped to shape how the website would ultimately, exploring all aspects of the process.

We used the insights gained to decide the site map and content structure, what people visiting the website would be looking for, what would grab their attention and best support broader promotional activity via social media and email marketing.

That work influenced the functionality that would be needed to ease navigation of the site – from search to menu selection – nailing the user journey and creating a smooth experience full of strong visuals and impactful content.

What was the result?

The result of this project was a refreshed and rebuilt website that looked great and delivered in showcasing what Heritage Lab is all about in an accessible and highly visual way.

It was an opportunity to look again at brand identity with a new, fit for purpose logo, colour palette and creative style that integrated well with social media, email marketing and future funding applications, all supported by a new mobile friendly responsive accessible website to bring the whole project together.
